"THE FLOWER POT"

What do you think of the name of my latest hooked rug design? When I finished color planning and hooking this rug I was pleased with the overall results and a little stunned by how much the flower pot made its presence!  So in my mind's eye there could be no better name for it than "The Flower Pot"!  

One of my favorite things about Spring is digging out the old terra cotta flower pots that I've collected over the years and placing them in little groupings around the garden.

Some of the old ones have a mossy patina and some were decorated with stripes and the fading artwork of flower lovers of the past.

You could say my design is kind of a remembrance to the old terra cotta pots!

You can never have too many of them.

I hooked my rug using a wide #8.5 cut strip and used a #7 cut for the stems to make them a little more fragile in appearance. But over all I wanted the rug to be very primitive so the wider strips worked well for that.

The design measures 9.75 by 20 inches.

It is a perfect size for those tall and narrow spaces and to hang on old cupboard doors!

"1820 Sunflower" Paper Rug Hooking Pattern~Available Now!

I've been playing with a little bit more of a primitive look in my rug designing lately. I have to say that I LOVE the way this turned out!    I've named this one simply "1820 Sunflower".  Growing tall as Sunflowers do, the leaves are what add a touch of whimsy to this rug!  They are a riot to hook.... one side different than the other..... or use your own color preferences  and add subtle color to each one!  I could even see this rug done in brighter pop colors for the modern whimsical design lovers. 

The paper pattern comes already enlarged to 10 by 20 inches.  Transfer it to your favorite backing and get started hooking!  I plan to leave mine displayed all year long!

Sassy Sunflower Pattern Now Available!

  

Since our Summer has been so hot and humid I find my thoughts lately turning to sunflowers and falling leaves!  It's never too early to start planning a hooking project for the beautiful Autumn season.   I am pleased to be offering my Sassy Sunflower pattern on paper for your rug hooking pleasure!  The paper pattern measures 10 by 12 inches but could be reduced for needle punch or enlarged at a copy place like Kinko's if you have one in your area.    Very fun to hook in bright colors with an antique black background as I have done!  I can visualize  this hooked with  a light background  and the motifs in fall shades of golds, browns and rusts.  MMmmmmm!  I may have to hook it for myself using those colors!   I hooked the original rug using a #6 cut strip but how about enlarging it a bit and using a wider cut strip for a real primitive feel.  So many possibilities with this pattern. The cost for this paper pattern is $7.50 which includes the postage.

Here is another one of my paper rug hooking patterns available for purchase.  A simple design that makes a patriotic statement in a primitive fashion.  The finished rug is 12 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches.  A perfect size for a pillow which is how I finished mine.
I cut my strips using the # 8 and # 6 ( for the lettering)  so it hooks up quite quickly.  The pattern would be fun hooked with hand-cut strips to give it an even more primitive feel.

I call this little mat Flowers and Tongues.  It has a primitive cottage garden appeal and would be fun worked in brighter as well as softer neutral shades of wool!  I hooked the background in wide hand torn strips for a more primitive look.
